Goal: To enable students to converse with fluent speakers regarding a wide variety of situations. Method: Classroom instruction involving an instructor and part-time assistant, for seven hours per day, five days per week. All instruction and classroom dialogue is conducted in Kanyen’keha. Although students learn to read and write, emphasis is entirely on developing oral language proficiency. The program begins September 8, 2008 and ends May 15, 2009. Content: Introductions and greetings; “stative” verbs that describe the states and conditions of people, animals, objects, weather; in the past, present and future. Additional vocabulary includes nomenclature for family relationships, place names, personal possessions, landscape elements, foods, animals, birds and insects, numbers and colours. Pre-requisite: Successful completion of the Admissions Test.
