Second Year Program

Goal: To enable students to converse with fluent speakers regarding a wide range of actions and events so that they will become competent speakers of basic Kanyen’keha.

Method: Classroom instruction involving an instructor and part-time assistant, for seven hours per day, five days per week. Although there will be a reading and writing component, most of the program will be devoted to developing oral language proficiency. The program begins September 8, 2008 and ends May 15, 2009.

Content: “Active” verbs, their meaning, usage and components (the roots and all the prefixes, suffixes and infixes); word formation; particle phrases; idioms and expressions.
