Assessment
Students will be tested throughout the year on the material studied to date.
Students will be assessed as to whether they are performing at one of four levels:
• Level 1 – Not Meeting Program Expectations
• Level 2 – Approaching Program Expectations
• Level 3 – Meeting Program Expectations
• Level 4 – Exceeding Program Expectations
As well, the students will be assessed at year-end in accordance with the oral proficiency interview guidelines established by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). First-Year students must achieve an Intermediate-Low level of proficiency to be eligible for the Second-Year Program. (Many students achieve an Intermediate-Mid level.) Second-Year students must achieve an Advanced-Low level of proficiency to be eligible for the Third-Year Program. (Some students achieve an Advanced-Mid level.) A detailed description of the assessment criteria can be found at www.actfl.org.
